Skill Acquisition Centre for Youths

At a glance…

The unemployment rate in Nigeria and across Africa is alarming for a country and continent whose youth populace is a human resource tourist attraction. This has given birth to different crimes and social vices in society.

Challenge

Unemployment has been identified as one of the main precursors of crime and social vices prevalent in different communities. Every day the news is awash with images of young Africans trying to follow illegal routes to Western countries where they believe they will get more opportunities to work and earn a living. The big challenge of solving youth restiveness as a result of unemployment has inspired SMOL Foundation to start up this cause.

Solution

From 2016 till date, SMOL Foundation has, in conjunction with the King’s Chamber, built a vocational training centre in Lagos where the teeming youths can learn a variety of skills like makeup, fashion design, photography, crafts and many other skills to help equip them with the skills needed to serve the community and make a living for themselves. Research has proven that when young people are gainfully employed in endeavours that excites them, crime rates and other societal vices reduce to the barest minimum.

SMOL Foundation, in a bid to engage the energy of our young people, has taken the bold step to set up Vocational Skill Acquisition Centre for Youths. From the donations and money raised, we have already established a model skill acquisition Centre in Lagos. We are interested in replicating this model of vocational training in other communities in Nigeria and West Africa. Donate as we partner to solve the problem of unemployment in Africa.
